USL Long Island will use soccer as the vehicle to bring ALL communities together. Being a part of USL LI means being a part of something much bigger than a soccer team. MEET THE CLUB LEADERSHIP
Dr. Sara Whalen Hess
President, Co-Founder
Dr. Sara Whalen Hess is a FIFA Women’s World Cup Champion, Olympic silver medalist, clinical psychologist, and a founder of Long Island’s new USL professional soccer club.
Raised in Greenlawn, New York, Sara grew up playing soccer on Long Island before leaving home to attend the University of Connecticut. Her career eventually took her to the highest levels of the game as a member of the iconic 1999 U.S. Women’s National Team, helping the United States win the FIFA Women’s World Cup and representing her country at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, where the team earned a silver medal. She later became a founding player in the Women’s United Soccer Association (WUSA), playing professionally for the New York Power.
After a career-ending injury, Sara earned her doctorate in clinical psychology and built a second career focused on mental health, human performance, and athlete development. Most recently, she worked within the USL ecosystem in player development, mental performance, and player care, bringing her clinical expertise and experience as an elite athlete directly into the professional club environment.
Now, Sara is bringing that experience back to where her own journey began. As a founder of Long Island’s new professional soccer club, she is helping build a club rooted in community and belonging—one that brings Long Island together, creates meaningful connections for young players and families, and gives people across the Island a professional team they can truly call their own.
Glenn Schneider
Principal Owner, Co-Founder
Glenn brings to USL Long Island a unique combination of entrepreneurial vision, strategic leadership, and a track record of growing the game of soccer on Long Island. Throughout his career, the Dix Hills, NY native has built organizations by recognizing opportunities, bringing talented people together and creating stronger, more sustainable enterprises.
Prior to entering youth soccer full-time, he spent more than 20 years with The Nature’s Bounty Co., where he rose to become CEO of U.S. Nutrition and President of Global Wholesale. He played a key role in the company’s growth into one of the world’s leading nutritional supplement businesses by identifying strategic opportunities, integrating complementary businesses, and building scalable organizations capable of sustained success.
He applied that same business philosophy to Long Island soccer when he partnered with respected coach and SUSA founder Moussa Sy to transform SUSA FC Academy from a successful training organization into New York’s largest youth soccer academy, serving more than 4,000 players.
Glenn believes Long Island deserves a professional club that reflects the passion, diversity, and pride of the region. He is committed to creating an organization that inspires the next generation of players, unites communities across Long Island, and establishes a legacy both on and off the field.
